Commissioned by the Royal Borough of Kingston, a new approach to keeping a healthy heart for local residents has been recommissioned to run throughout 2016 following its initial success in the borough last year.
Open to anyone who is registered with a Kingston GP, aged 40-74, you can sign up with your GP for a free NHS health check and if you meet the assessment criteria, will be able to participate in the Reduce Your Risk Cardiovascular Prevention Programme (CVD).
Taking a holistic and sustainable approach to helping you maintain your health, run by Your Healthcare, the eight week CVD programme works by initially assessing each individual's physical, social and psychological needs with a cardiac nurse and exercise instructor. Patients are then given free exercise classes and benefit from health education, which covers lifestyle changes, healthy eating, weight management and the benefits of exercise.
Sundus Hashim, Associate Director of Public Health at Kingston Council says, 'This is a great opportunity to help prevent heart disease and encourage those at a higher risk to know how to manage their health appropriately, helping to reduce their risks of cardiovascular disease.'
Ali Child, Community Cardiac Rehabiitation Facilitator at Your Healthcare comments, 'Last year's initial programme was a fantastic success with over 60% of patients managing to reduce their BMI.' For those that fit the criteria, signing up to this programme can help to improve health in a fun and realistic way, that is manageable over a period of time and easy to remember for the long term.
